General Information and Working Environment:
What’s it like working here?
- The Communications Officer will primarily work in an office environment.
- This is a full-time permanent position. Hours of work are from Monday to Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., with occasional evenings or weekends. Additional hours are to be presented as paid time off.
- Reports to the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO).
- Off-site mandatory training as required.
- Completion of all training required as per OH&S directives.
About the Position:
What will I be doing?
The Communications Officer plays a key role in keeping the community informed and engaged by managing the Municipality’s internal and external communications. This is a hands-on position responsible for day-to-day communication activities, media relations, public engagement, and maintaining the Municipality’s brand. Key duties include:
- Manage and coordinate all municipal communications, including website updates, social media, newsletters, posters, emails, advertisements, speeches, and media releases.
- Act as the primary point of contact for media inquiries and support the CAO and Council with public messaging.
- Create and edit content to ensure accuracy, clarity, and consistency across all communications.
- Support public engagement initiatives by providing communications advice and preparing materials for community events or consultations.
- Maintain a consistent municipal brand and visual identity across all platforms.
- Collaborate with all municipal departments to support their communications needs, including proofreading, translating, preparing, and publishing materials for internal and public audiences.
- Serve as the Public Information Officer for the Regional Emergency Management Organization (REMO) during emergencies.
- Prepare speeches, correspondence, and speaking notes for the Warden, Council, and CAO.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the CAO.

Education, training, and experience:
- Post-secondary degree in communications, public relations, journalism, business administration, marketing, or a related discipline.
- 2–5 years of related experience, preferably in municipal or public sector communications.
- Previous experience in a senior administrative capacity is considered an asset.
- Bilingual in French and English.
- Knowledge and experience creating content for various media channels.
Skills and abilities:
- Excellent writing, editing, and translation skills.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical, communication, and critical thinking skills.
- Strong public speaking and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to develop online communications and digital content.
- Ability to develop positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders and partners.
- Self-starter with the ability to develop and implement work plans, determining organizational needs.
- Must be able to provide a clear Criminal Record Check.
Compensation and Benefits:
What’s in it for you?
- Annual salary: $64,756 to $73,439
- New employees are entitled to two weeks (10 working days) of vacation during their first two years of service. From their third year of service, employees are entitled to an additional week (15 working days) of vacation. Vacation entitlements increase thereafter in accordance with the municipality's Human Resources Policy Manual.
